Quantum Data to Demonstrate HDR Calibration In SpectraCal Booth at NAB 2016

Elgin IL - April 5, 2016 - Quantum Data™, a worldwide provider of video test equipment, announced that they will be exhibiting their 780 series test solutions at the NAB 2016 show in Las Vegas April 18th through the 21st. Quantum Data will be exhibiting in the SpectraCal booth located in the South Hall, lower level, Booth 14816 of the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Previously Quantum Data and SpectraCal had announced a partnership to provide test pattern support for HDR-10 High Dynamic Range (HDR) displays.

"High Dynamic Range is the most important development in video since the high definition TV,” remarked SpectraCal’s Chief Color Scientist Stacey Spears.

"With the rapid growth of HDR, objective measurements of video performance have never been more crucial.” Spears continued.

Developers from SpectraCal and Quantum Data worked together closely to ensure that Quantum Data’s hardware and SpectraCal’s software would jointly support emerging standards in HDR.

Support for HDR-10 patterns is available in Version 5.7 of SpectraCal’s CalMAN software, the most widely used video calibration software in the world. Quantum Data and SpectraCal will be exhibiting this solution at the NAB show.

“Many vendors have announced that they will be supporting HDR in the future, but Quantum Data is the only supplier whose solutions work with both Dolby Vision and HDR10 today,” said Derek Smith, SpectraCal’s CTO.

To help users transition to HDR quickly, SpectraCal  is offering a special HDR Calibration Kit consisting  of CalMAN Ultimate, the Klein Instruments K10-A colorimeter, and the new Quantum Data 780D for a combined price of $12,875.

“This is everything you need to accurately measure and calibrate all HDR displays,” said Smith. “And you save $7,000 on the bundle.”

The HDR Calibration Kit special pricing is only available through April.

The Teledyne LeCroy quantumdata 780D model supports the same rich feature set as the 780BH and 780C but operates up to 600MHz. The 780C Multi-Interface Interoperability Tester will be featured. This model is equipped with 3G-SDI Input and Output ports as well as HDMI and HDBaseT Input and Output ports. New model supports HDCP 2.2 testing for HDMI sources and sinks

Elgin IL - Jan 26, 2016 - Quantum Data™, a worldwide provider of video test equipment, today announced a new 780 series model—the 780D Protocol Analyzer / Generator for UHD 600MHz Testing of HDMI sources and sinks up to 600MHz. The 780D also supports testing HDCP 2.2 on HDMI 2.0 Ultra HD sources and sinks.

The 780D model supports the same rich feature set as the 780BH and 780C but operates up to 600MHz. This enables it to test HDMI sources, sinks and repeaters with ultra HD resolutions even at 60Hz and 4:4:4 pixel encoding. New test patterns support UHD compliance and functional testing of high-end UHD capable TVs

The UHD Alliance test patterns are called out in the Ultra-High Definition Alliance Test Specification.

The UHD Alliance test pattern pack can be used to assess a UHD TV’s compliance to all tests in the specification including:

The 780AH will replace the 780A and the 780BH will replace the 780B model.

Quantum Data 980 HDMI Phy & Protocol Aux Channel Analyzer

New module supports HDMI 1.4b DDC compliance test

Elgin IL - Oct 14, 2015 - Quantum Data™, a worldwide provider of video test equipment, today announced the availability of a new module for their popular 980 series test platforms. The new module—HDMI Phy & Protocol Aux Channel Analyzer—in its initial release will support the DDC Bus Compliance tests for HDMI 1.4 sources and sinks in accordance with the HDMI CTS Clarification specification Version 1.04 - May 1, 2014.

The DDC compliance test is initiated through the 980 Manager application in the same way the other HDMI compliance tests for source and sink devices are initiated. You can run the tests either through the embedded 980 Manager via the touch screen or externally from a PC hosting the GUI application. Once initiated, the tests run to completion with limited user interaction required. When a test series has been completed, the instrument issues a detailed report that provides pass/fail results for each individual test. Reports can be viewed through a web browser, transferred over a network, printed or disseminated to colleagues.

Future releases for the module will support a variety of diagnostic and functional tests for the DDC bus, CEC bus and the hot plug and +5V leads.

The new functional tests enable developers to check their HDCP 2.2 implementation against an HDCP 2.2 source, sink or repeater through a user friendly interface. Additionally, developers can monitor the HDCP 2.2 authentication transactions during the HDCP functional tests using Quantum Data’s familiar Auxiliary Channel Analyzer (ACA) tool. Monitoring the HDCP 2.2 transactions through the ACA can be conducted when testing an HDCP 2.2 source, sink or repeater device. The ACA traces can be saved and distributed to colleagues for further analysis.

The HDCP 2.2 functional tests are a first step offered to developers for HDCP 2.2 verification. Support for HDCP 2.2 compliance testing is expected to begin rolling out next year. The 980 DP 1.2 Video Generator / Analyzer also supports HDCP 1.3 functional testing for source and sink devices.

The optional Aux Channel Analyzer (ACA), which shows the aux channel traffic such as link training, EDID exchange and HDCP authentication, has been enhanced to show the MST negotiations between the module and an MST-capable source or display.

Quantum Data Announces Enhancements to the DP Video Generator / Analyzer module

Elgin IL - May 13, 2015 - Quantum Data™, a worldwide provider of video test equipment, today announced enhancements to their DisplayPort 1.2 Video Generator / Analyzer module for the 980 Series Test Platforms. The module is equipped with two (2) transmitter (video generator) ports and a receiver (analyzer) port for testing both DP 1.2 sources and displays at link rates up to 5.4 Gb/s (HBR2) on 1, 2 or 4 lanes. The enhancements being announced pertain to both the video generator function for testing DP 1.2 displays and for the video analyzer function for testing DP 1.2 sources and will be supported in separate 980 system releases.

On the video generator side, the module now supports Multi-Stream Transport (MST) testing and audio testing of DP 1.2 displays. The module’s second transmitter port can emulate an MST source capable of delivering up to four (4) MST streams to an MST branch device or MST-capable display. The MST feature enables users to read the EDIDs and DPCD registers of the downstream displays. The module also now supports audio testing with up to 8 channels of LPCM audio including support for audio over MST streams.

On the video analyzer side for testing DP 1.2 source devices, the 980 DP 1.2 module will support a second option—the DP Protocol Analyzer—in addition to the existing Basic Analyzer option. The Protocol Analyzer option (which requires the Basic Analyzer option to be in place) captures and stores main link data and provides developers with visibility into the protocol data and metadata. The capture utility depicts these data items on a graphical time line as well as a sequential table for viewing the details. The module’s Basic Analyzer option will support emulation of an MST-capable Rx device for testing an MST-capable source device.

Quantum Data Announces 300MHz 780C Test Instrument Has Passed HDBaseT Certification Testing

New test solution for HDMI 2.0 Ultra High Definition Displays

Elgin IL - March 26, 2015 - Quantum Data™, a worldwide provider of video test equipment, today announced the release of the model 804B 600MHz HDMI Video Generator to support testing Ultra High Definition TVs and other displays with 4K by 2K resolutions at 50/60Hz using 4:4:4 pixel encoding. The instrument also features HDCP 2.2 functional testing for Ultra High Definition TVs.

The rack mountable 804B is optimized for testing the latest HDMI 2.0 Ultra HD TVs and displays. It features four (4) HDMI 600MHz outputs—all active simultaneously—for testing HDTVs with multiple HDMI inputs. This eliminates the need for splitters often required for testing each HDMI input on an HDTV. The 804B can output RGB analog at 162MHz and composite analog as well.

The 804B is equipped with all the standard video timings and test patterns—including support for 3D—necessary for testing HDTVs including tests for HDMI protocols such as HDCP (1.4 and 2.2), EDID and CEC.

The 804B tests both compressed and uncompressed HDMI audio formats using a variety of audio test signals. An HDTV’s analog audio inputs can also be tested using the 804B’s programmable analog audio outputs.

Manufacturing engineers can choose to operate the 804B in a few different ways. The 804B can be controlled through the user friendly touch screen interface which also provides status of the 804B instrument during testing. For control by an automated test system, the 804B can be operated through its extensive command set. The recently released 780C device is a compact, versatile test instrument designed for use in the field or in the development lab for routine functional testing and diagnostic testing. The new 804B Video Test Generator is a rack-mountable instrument that supports testing of high end HD and UHD TVs and displays at pixel rates up to 600 MHz on its four (4) HDMI outputs. This enables testing of high end 4K resolutions at 50/60Hz in accordance with HDMI 2.0 4:4:4 pixel encoding. The instrument also supports testing of 21:9 format resolutions up to 600 MHz pixel rate. (Test for repeaters expected to follow.) Quantum Data’s support for HDCP 2.2 compliance testing on the 980 Protocol Analyzer is a significant expansion to the existing support for the protocol, video, audio, and advanced features compliance test sections of the HDMI (and MHL) CTS for both source and sink devices.

In addition to the HDCP 2.2 compliance test, the 980 HDMI Protocol Analyzer module supports compliance testing for both HDMI 1.4b and HDMI 2.0 source and sink devices. The module also offers a rich debug environment that helps identify and resolve HDMI and HDCP compliance related problems during development. Developers can monitor HDCP transactions and examine the encryption pulse occurrences within the HDMI stream to help identify the root cause of a compliance test failure. All raw capture data used for diagnosing HDCP compliance failures as well as the HDCP test results can be transferred to the host PC and disseminated to colleagues for additional analysis.

Operation of the HDCP compliance test through the 980 Manager application is simple. The HDCP compliance test is initiated through the 980 Manager either through the 980 touch screen or from a PC. Once initiated, the tests run to completion with limited user interaction required. When a test series has been completed, the instrument issues a detailed report that provides pass/fail results for each individual test. Reports can be viewed through a web browser, transferred over a network, or printed.

The analyzer (Rx port) emulates a DP 1.2 sink for testing DP 1.2 source devices. Users can view periodic snapshots of the incoming video as well as view the timing, link training status, and essential video parameters such as the main stream attributes. The analyzer feature can be configured to emulate a variety of DisplayPort EDIDs to test a DP source’s response to commercial EDIDs or other test EDIDs. The Analyzer’s DPCD Editor enables users to view the current DPCD and configure a new DPCD for emulation. The 980R offers a multi-slot solution to allow population of up to five (5) application modules depending on module type. The 980R’s lower profile chassis enables it to be rack mounted in a standard 19 inch relay rack occupying 3U. It is ideally suited for use in manufacturing but can also be used in R&D where a reduced chassis size is desired. The 980R features a 7-inch touch display with 800 by 480 screen resolution. Users can connect to the 980R through Ethernet with a PC and use the external 980 GUI Manager application if a larger viewing area is necessary.

The automated EDID test enables test engineers to specify the set of EDIDs used for testing. The test EDIDs can be commercial EDIDs, custom created EDIDs, even “test” EDIDs with known-anomalies. The automated EDID test is initiated through the front panel with the touch of a button or through the command line. Once initiated the test runs through all the EDIDs specified; no human intervention is required. Results are presented in a clear fashion indicating whether each EDID was handled properly—correct timing, VIC, color space, sampling mode received—based on the device’s output which is connected to the 780B HDMI Input port for analysis. The results can optionally be saved in a report for later viewing or dissemination to colleagues.

The new functional tests enable developers to check their HDCP 2.x implementation against an HDCP 2.x source and/or sink through a user friendly interface. Additionally, developers can monitor the HDCP 2.x authentication transactions during the HDCP functional tests using Quantum Data’s familiar Auxiliary Channel Analyzer (ACA) tool. Monitoring the HDCP 2.x transactions through the ACA can be conducted both when testing an HDCP 2.x source or sink device.

The HDCP 2.x functional tests are a first step offered to developers for HDCP 2.x verification. Support for HDCP 2.x compliance testing is expected to begin rolling out next year. The 980 HDMI Protocol Analyzer also supports HDCP 1.x compliance testing for HDMI (and MHL) source devices and a rich set of features for interoperability testing and debugging.

The new HDMI 2.0 Video Generator module supports video and audio functional testing of HDMI 2.0 sink devices at TMDS characters rates up to 600MHz. This includes testing HDMI 2.0 ultra-high definition HDMI 2.0 HDTVs with 4K x 2K resolutions running at 60Hz frame rates.

The 980 HDMI 2.0 Video Generator module offers over 600 standard video timings and 300 test patterns necessary for testing HDTVs. The module has an LPCM sine wave audio generator which can be configured to output a user defined sampling rate, bit depth, amplitude and frequency.

The 980 HDMI 2.0 Video Generator module offers a variety of features for testing HDMI protocols. The contents of the EDID of a connected HDMI 2.0 sink are decoded and can be examined in human readable text. The HDCP verification utility enables developers to verify a sink’s response to HDCP authentication. The SCDC Decode feature supports viewing the current register settings of the SCDC.

The optional Quantum Data Auxiliary Channel Analyzer (ACA) application enables monitoring of EDID exchanges, HDCP authentication transactions and SCDC register status between the module and a connected HDMI 2.0 sink device. Both MHL 2.1 solution suites have been approved by the MHL consortium.

Depending on the desired tests, a test point adapter and two 980 modules are used:

  • 980 HDMI Protocol Analyzer module
  • 980 MHL CBUS Compliance module

The 780A is identical to the 780 in form and operation and includes all the 780 features but supports HDMI 1.4 speeds of 297MHz on both its HDMI Tx and Rx ports. This enables engineers and A/V installers to test 4K-capable HDMI sources, sinks and repeaters.

There are several new features planned for the 780A beyond the rich set provided by the 780. The 780A will support 4:2:0 pattern testing and analysis of 4:2:0 HDMI incoming streams. Incoming HDMI video streams at the HDMI Rx port will be able to be passed through to the HDMI Tx port. This will enable viewing of the incoming video on an attached HDTV. Elgin IL – May 14, 2013 – Quantum Data™, a worldwide provider of video test equipment, today announced that the 980 HDMI Protocol Analyzer test instrument supports HDMI-HDCP compliance testing for source devices per CTS 1.2. Quantum Data’s support for HDCP compliance testing on the 980 Protocol Analyzer is a significant expansion to the existing support for the protocol, video, audio, and advanced features compliance test sections of the HDMI (and MHL) CTS for both source and sink devices. Note that the new HDCP compliance test option requires a memory upgrade to the protocol analyzer module.

Quantum Data was the first test equipment vendor to provide a commercially available HDCP test tool for the HDMI™ interface approved by Digital Content Protection (DCP), LLC. This initial support was provided with the 882E Analyzer test instrument.

Operation of the HDCP compliance test through the 980 Manager application is simple. The HDCP compliance test is initiated through the 980 Manager either through the 980 touch screen or from a host PC. Once initiated, the tests run to completion with limited user interaction required. When a test series has been completed, the instrument issues a detailed report that provides pass/fail results for each individual test. Reports can be viewed through a web browser, transferred over a network or printed.

In addition to the HDCP compliance test, the 980 HDMI Protocol Analyzer offers a rich debug environment that helps identify and resolve HDCP compliance related problems during development. Developers can monitor HDCP transactions and examine the encryption pulse occurrences within the HDMI stream to help identify the root cause of a compliance test failure. All raw capture data used for diagnosing HDCP compliance failures as well as the HDCP test results can be transferred to the host PC and disseminated to colleagues or Quantum Data application engineers for additional analysis.

Quantum Data Announces Availability of EDID Library

Initial Library focuses on HDMI

Elgin IL - August 13, 2012 - Quantum Data™, a worldwide provider of video test equipment, is pleased to announce the availability of an EDID Library to help the A/V industry reduce interoperability problems related to EDIDs. The initial EDIDs in the library are specific to HDMI; DVI, DisplayPort and MHL EDIDs are planned as well.

Several customers and industry professional organizations have asked Quantum Data to provide an EDID library to facilitate testing and help reduce interoperability problems in the field. One industry expert at the recent CEDIA Expo stated:

"EDIDs account for most of the HDMI interoperability problems in the field.”

Quantum Data’s EDID library offers a set of known-good EDIDs with a variety of common capabilities as well as specific models from HDTV manufacturers. But the library also supports irregular testing by offering EDIDs with a variety of anomalies “modeled” EDIDs.

Manufacturers of projectors, HDTVs, displays, PC monitors as well as A/V receivers and other types of sink devices are invited and encouraged to contribute to the EDID library by sending EDIDs from their devices to Quantum Data using the tools available on The Teledyne LeCroy quantumdata EDID Library webpage. New test patterns facilitate video calibration on high-end 3D-capable HDTVs

The test pattern package has been licensed to Quantum Data by THX Ltd. and is the result of Quantum Data’s continued collaboration with THX. The THX test patterns enable A/V professionals to calibrate the displays on high-end 3D-capable HDTVs to match the same standards as those used in post-production facilities worldwide.

Quantum Data Announces Release of MHL CBUS Compliance Test Solutions

Initial release supports CBUS source tests sink and dongle support to follow

Elgin IL - May 2, 2012 - Quantum Data™, a worldwide provider of video test equipment, today announced the release of a major expansion of its MHL compliance test suite by supporting CBUS compliance testing for MHL source devices on its 980 HDMI Protocol Analyzer.

Although the initial support is targeted for CBUS source devices, Quantum Data expects to deliver the full suite of CBUS compliance tests—adding support for sinks and dongle—in the first half of 2012 as well.

This initial support for CBUS source devices includes the Link Layer electrical and timing tests specified in sections 3.3.4 through 3.3.23; all applicable “Common” MSC and DDC tests related to source devices in specified section 6.3, as well as the RCP tests in section 3.2.7.

The CBUS compliance test is supported through a new MHL CBUS Compliance module that can be installed within the existing 980 HDMI Protocol Analyzer Gen 3 chassis. No external measuring devices are required.

Quantum Data Announces Release of 297MHz HDMI Video Generator Module for 980

Future software releases will include 297MHz HDMI analyzer for testing HDMI sinks as well

Elgin IL – May 2, 2012 – Quantum Data™, a worldwide provider of video test equipment, today announced the release of a new HDMI Video Generator module for the 980 Protocol Analyzer chassis. The new module supports testing of HDMI source devices up to 297MHz and provides standard pattern testing for HDMI sinks including tests for advanced feature such as deep color, 3D video, and 4:2:0 video (future) sampling mode. Functional testing for protocols such as HDCP and EDID are included as well.

In subsequent releases, the new HDMI module offer an optional analyzer (Rx port) for emulating a sink device. The analyzer will provides basic functional testing of HDMI source devices. This will enable comprehensive testing of HDMI repeater devices, extenders, splitters, etc. Other planned feature enhancements for the analyzer include timing analysis, pixel error testing to conduct more complete testing of source and repeater devices. An auxiliary channel analysis (ACA) option will be added as well to monitor HDCP and EDID transactions and CEC messages between the HDMI Tx or Rx interface and an HDMI sink, source or repeater device.

Quantum Data Announces Release of the HDMI® Sink Compliance Test for 980 Protocol Analyzer

Elgin IL — August 24, 2011 — Quantum Data™, a worldwide provider of video test equipment, today announced the release of an optional sink compliance test software module for the 980 Protocol Analyzer. The 980’s new HDMI sink compliance test covers the tests in Sections 8.2 (EDID / E-DDC), Section 8.4 (Protocol), Section 8.5 (Video), Section 8.6 (Audio), 8.7 (Interoperability with DVI) and Section 8.8 (Advanced Features) of the HDMI 1.4a Compliance Test Specification (CTS).

The HDMI sink compliance test graphical user interface can be run either from the built-in touch screen or from a PC connected to the 980. The workflow of the new HDMI sink compliance module has been optimized for the convenience of busy engineers. Users first select the capabilities of the HDMI sink device under test through a set of easily accessible windows. Once the capabilities of the device have been specified, the engineer selects which particular tests to run in the test suite and then initiates the test. The tests run in sequence with minimal user interaction. During the execution of the test, engineers can elect to skip certain tests. They can also pause a test suite and return later.

The 980’s new HDMI sink compliance test is a nice complement to Quantum Data’s existing compliance test solutions for HDMI sources as well as MHL source and sink devices.

The 980 Protocol Analyzer is an ideal solution for pre-testing source products prior to submission to an ATC and also for self-testing where manufacturers have tested initial sink products at the ATC. Developers of HDMI sink devices have also found the 980 Protocol Analyzer to be a valuable tool for gaining insights into how source devices transmit protocol, audio and control data over an HDMI link. Quantum Data Announces Model 804A Video Test Generator Operating at HDMI® 1.4 speeds of 297MHz

Rapid testing for the latest HDMI products running at 297MHz

Elgin IL – May 11, 2011 – Quantum Data™, a worldwide provider of video test equipment, today announced the release of the model 804A Video Test Generator running at HDMI 1.4 pixel rates up to 297MHz to support testing HDTVs and other displays with 4K by 2K resolutions at 30Hz.

The rack mountable 804A is optimized for testing the latest displays. It features four (4) HDMI 297MHz outputs—all active simultaneously—for testing HDTVs with multiple HDMI inputs. This eliminates the need for splitters often required for testing each HDMI input on an HDTV. The 804A can output component analog and composite analog as well. Switching between video timings and images is fast; less than 100ms. The 804A is equipped with all the standard video timings and test patterns—including support for 3D—necessary for testing HDTVs including tests for HDMI protocols such as HDCP, EDID and CEC.

The 804A tests both compressed and uncompressed HDMI audio formats using a variety of audio test signals. An HDTV’s analog audio inputs can also be tested using the 804A’s programmable analog audio outputs.

Manufacturing engineers can choose to operate the 804A in a few different ways. The 804A can be controlled through the user friendly touch screen interface which also provides status of the 804A instrument during testing. For control by an automated test system, the 804A can be operated through its extensive command set. The 804A supports many of the same commands that production facilities have become familiar with on The Teledyne LeCroy quantumdata 802 and 881 series test instruments. Alternatively, an optional programmable keypad can be attached to the USB Port or RS-232 port for keypad control.

Quantum Data Announces Release of the HDMI Source Compliance Test for 980 Protocol Scope

New application includes built-in debug capabilities

Elgin IL – June 15, 2010 – Quantum Data™, a worldwide provider of video test equipment, today announced the release of an optional Source Compliance Test module for the 980 Protocol Scope. The 980’s new HDMI compliance test covers the tests in Section 7.4 (Protocol), Section 7.5 (Video), Section 7.6 (Audio), Section 7.7 (DVI) and Section 7.8 (Advanced Features) of the HDMI 1.4 Compliance Test Specification (CTS).

The 980 Protocol Scope is an analyzer for HDMI source devices. It captures and decodes HDCP-protected video data content such as data islands, infoframes, audio sample packets as well as CEC and DDC transactions including HDCP and EDID data. The built-in 10.4″ LCD with touchscreen provides a graphical user interface (GUI) to control the instrument and view incoming decrypted video.

The HDMI source compliance test GUI can be run either from the built-in touch screen or from a PC connected to the 980. The 980’s new HDMI Source Compliance Test is a nice complement to Quantum Data’s existing suite of compliance test solutions for HDMI. Their EDID and CEC compliance tests were the first test tools of their kind to be approved for use in the HDMI Authorized Test Centers (ATCs).
