The Multi-Purpose Adaptor, Model No. TPA-MP-4R is used in four separate applications. These are as follows:
- Application 1 - Provides Eye measurement, EDID emulation, Vcc Power & Hot Plug support while measuring waveforms with an oscilloscope during HDMI physical layer compliance tests.
- Application 2- Serves as a CEC bridge for testing
Sink devices during CEC compliance testing. The TPA-MP-4R
can be used instead of the TPA-CEC-4R.
- Application 3 - Serves as a CEC bridge for testing
Source devices during CEC compliance testing. The
TPA-MP-4R can be used instead of the TPA-CEC-4R.
- Application 4 - Serves as a passive monitoring device
for the DDC, hot plug and 5V leads. The TPA-MP-4R
can be used instead of the TPA-ACA-3R.

Application 1 - Eye Measurement, EDID emulation, AVCC Power & Hot Plug Support
Using Tektronix Test Instruments
The 882CA provides EDID emulation and DDC, EDID, hot plug and CEC transaction monitoring. The TPA-MP-4R provides +3.3Vcc via the P40 2-wire cable. The TPA-MP-4R connects the 882CA HDMI Rx 1 to the Tek TPA-P-DI via P30 8-wire cable. TPA-P-DI connects Rx DDC, Hot Plug Detect and CEC to the source device under test. The following illustration depicts these connections.

Using Agilent Test Instruments
The 882CA provides EDID emulation and DDC, EDID, hot plug and CEC transaction monitoring. The TPA-MP-4R provides +3.3Vcc via the Pomona 5069 8-wire cable. The TPA-MP-4R connects the 882CA HDMI Rx 1 to the Agilent TPA-P via 5069 8-wire cable. TPA-P connects Rx DDC, Hot Plug Detect and CEC to the source device under test. The following illustration depicts these connections.

Application 4 - Passive monitoring
The Auxiliary Channel Analyzer (ACA) can monitor DDC, EDID, hot plug transactions between a device under test and one of the 882's own internal HDMI ports in the emulation mode. The new TPA-MP-4R as well as the TPA-ACA-3R test point adapter allows the ACA to passively monitor DDC, EDID, hot plug transactions between the HDMI ports of two devices under test e.g. a set top box and an HDTV. The diagram below depicts how to connect the devices under test and the 882 to passively monitor transactions between two devices under test.
