New product provides both A/V signal generation and analysis in a portable low-cost package with a color touch screen interface
Elgin IL - April 8, 2009 - Quantum Data™, a worldwide provider of video test equipment, today announced the release of the 780 Handheld Test Instrument for HDMI. The 780 is a battery powered, portable multimedia A/V signal generator and analyzer that can quickly check the HDMI digital ports on HDMI 1.3 devices such as HDTVs, projectors, repeaters, A/V receivers, players, set-top-boxes, etc. Analog component video as well as SPDIF and TOS-Link audio inputs can also be tested. The 780's portability makes it ideal for lab bench, repair center, and field troubleshooting applications. The color touch screen interface has been designed to optimize workflow through key applications.
The instrument's generator has a rich set of features including audio and video pattern tests as well as protocol tests for HDMI systems. The 780 offers a variety of static video patterns and a motion pattern for detecting video artifacts during high-end video installations. Custom bitmaps can also be imported for use. In addition to video, audio test patterns are available through the HDMI output on all eight (8) channels at sampling rates up to 192kHz at 24 bits. A variety of useful troubleshooting features are included to help identify common protocol related problems in HDMI systems. EDID and HDCP tests are provided to test an HDTV or a repeater's input port. A CEC check can be initiated to view the CEC devices in an HDMI system.
The instrument's HDMI input port emulates an HDMI sink device for testing the audio and video of an HDMI source, including video content protected with HDCP. The HDMI input can be provisioned with an EDID to test a source's response to various EDIDs. The 780 also supports timing measurements and provides viewing and comparing the HDMI audio infoframes and audio sample packets received from an HDMI source device or repeater.
Having both a generator and an analyzer in one instrument means that passive or active cables, extenders, audio/video receivers, switches, and splitters can be easily tested through the optional bit error rate test feature.
The 780 combines versatility with ease of use at an attractive price. Contact your Quantum Data distributor or representative for ordering and pricing information.
