Quantum Data Adds HDMI version 1.1 Support to 802 Series Video Test Instruments

Upgrade boosts video and audio performance, supports HDCP 1.1 repeater testing

Elgin, Ill. — December 14, 2004 — Quantum Data™, a leading provider of video testing products, today announced an upgrade to their popular 802-series HDMI generators and analyzers. The Quantum Data test instruments are among the first to be certified by an HDMI Authorized Testing Center (ATC) for HDMI 1.1 level work (view certifications for transmitter and receiver).

The upgrade increases source performance from 81MHz to 165MHz — so that both single-link DVI and HDMI sinks can now be tested to the maximum rate using one instrument. Sink performance is also increased from 81MHz to 150MHz. HDCP 1.1 improvements include the ability to test repeaters. The source's internal sine wave generator now supports 8-channel LPCM with sampling rates up to 192kHz.

The 802-series has become a reference standard for HDMI/CEA application-layer development and production testing. With both generator and analyzer products, series members can emulate both source and sink devices. This assures manufacturers of high-definition televisions (HDTVs), set-top boxes, players and repeaters that their High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) ports are well integrated and functioning properly.

With the new improvements, the 802-series continues its legacy of offering a low cost solution for conducting a broad range of functional tests. These tests complement the transport-layer tests, conducted in compliance labs, which usually require more expensive equipment. For example, Silicon Image currently uses 802-series instruments in its regional pre-testing centers, where customers test and debug pre-production products in preparation for more costly final HDMI ATC testing. The 802-series instruments are also used in the ATCs for conducting source E-EDID literacy tests.

Upgrade kits, available in January 2005, will allow existing customers to enhance their 802R/BT-HDMI instruments in the field.
