The 882EA HDMI inputs have a newer generation of HDMI receiver chip, providing HDMI 1.3 capabilities such as deep color and high-bitrate audio. But there are also differences in the way the incoming HDMI signal is processed.
The 882EA receiver performs equalization on the received signal. This equalization can effectively improve the transitions and eye diagram in the TMDS signal to recover from some signal degradation. Normally this will only be significant at longer cable lengths: There may be some borderline conditions in which a pseudorandom noise test, a pixel error test, or a cable test will fail with pixel errors on the 882CA, but will pass with no errors on the 882EA. This is the result of the superior receive circuitry in the 882EA.
So, when performing these tests on the 882CA, your results will reflect the performance that you can expect when connecting your source and/or cable to an older generation HDMI 1.1 receiver. When performing the tests on the 882EA, your results will reflect the performance that you can expect when connecting your source and/or cable to a current HDMI 1.3 receiver.
